SMOKA 1975

Grand Master Hohan Soken and Master Fusei Kise close OKF.

Master Kise comes to Maryland.

Grand Master Soken and Master Kise request Sensei Coffman to head up and become United State Representative for their new association, Shorin-Ryu Matsumura Orthodox Karate Association (SMOKA).

Jimmy Coffman receives permission from Sensei Hohan Soken and Fusei Kiso to teach a mixture of both the ShorinJi-Ryu and Matsumura Seito Karate.

This was done to continue the training of the students from Okinawa dating from 1960 to 1966… 1966 was the year that Fusei Kise stopped teaching ShorinJi-Ryou completely, and started teaching only Matsumra seito, yet Kise still had many, many students that trained under the ShorinJi-Ryu style only.

Sensei Coffman still maintains his Kata in both systems, ShorinJi-Ryu and Matsumra Seito Shorin-Ryu.
